However, recent studies have demonstrated how active learning without an explicit equity focus may harm students from historically marginalized communities in STEM. In this talk, I will introduce a model for professional development that attends both to equity and active learning. In addition, I will introduce the Teaching Equity-minded and Active Mathematics (TEAM) Tool, a tool for pedagogical reflection that was developed by a team of undergraduate students at California State University, Fullerton. This research-backed tool was constructed as a way to support faculty in creating a learning atmosphere in which students can explore, discuss, and learn mathematics in the classroom in a safe, just, active, and equitable manner.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>Amelia Stone-Johnstone is an Assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department at California State University, Fullerton. Her research involves the development and assessment of academic support systems in introductory mathematics courses.
