Scaffold your assignments so you can see your students\u2019 work (and get to know them as writers) along the way. Add in low-stakes assignments<\/td>\n<td>If you leave them to their own devices, they\u2019re more likely to rely on chatGPT outputs (or whatever). You won\u2019t necessarily know if they\u2019re relying on ChatGPT. But\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know them as writers\/thinkers, you *really* won\u2019t know<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Understand what it\u2019s good at and what it\u2019s not good at<\/td>\n<td>It may make sense to introduce ChatGPT and its uses later in the semester or in more advanced seminars when students have acquired the basis of knowledge and skills to be effective at discernment, refinement, and querying ChatGPT results.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Use multiple modes of assessment \u2013 in addition to assessing their writing, assess their ability to reflect on it later, engage with concepts in the moment in class, etc.<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Be open to assignments that don\u2019t ask students to replicate e.g. scholarly articles<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"background-color: #808080; color: #ffffff;\">\n<th style=\"width: 40%; padding: 10px;\">\n<h2>Don\u2019t<\/h2>\n<\/th>\n<th style=\"padding: 10px;\">\n<h2>Notes + Thoughts + Responses<\/h2>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Don\u2019t block it off completely<\/td>\n<td>ChatGPT can be a useful tool and is not going to go away. I think we can learn to use this tool to enhance teaching\/ learning.
