Off Campus Resources

When reporting or discussing events of sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, and stalking, it is important to understand the types of support resources that are offered. There are two kinds of resources available off campus: confidential and non-confidential (or mandated reporters).

The local police/sheriff’s department, health care providers, medical examiners, and social workers are examples of mandated reporters off campus. This means that they are required by federal law to report any instance of sexual violence or dating/domestic violence.

Confidential resources are support resources that are not required by law to report any instance of sexual violence or dating/domestic violence. They are a means to physically and psychologically aid survivors without the pressure of having to report. Below is a list of support resources located off campus sorted by the type of support that they can provide. All resources listed below are confidential, except for Pomona Valley Health Center, which is a non-confidential resource.

RAINN National Sexual Assault Crisis Hotline
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the national sexual assault crisis hotline, is a clearinghouse for local crisis hotlines. When a caller calls the hotline, a computer notes the area code and first three digits of the caller’s phone number. The call is then instantaneously connected to the nearest RAINN member center. If all counselors at that center are busy, the call is sent to the next closest center. The caller’s phone number is not retained, so the call is anonymous and confidential unless the caller chooses to share personally-identifying information.

1in6 Online Support Groups and 24/7 Helpline

1in6, a national non-profit organization, has launched a free & anonymous online support group for men who have experienced sexual assault in adulthood. This group meets every Thursday 4pm-5:30pm Pacific Time.

The support group service functions similar to a chat room. During each 90-minute session, men from all over the world chat back and forth to share their experiences and offer support to other men in their journeys of trauma recovery. Each session is moderated by a licensed clinician who provides therapeutically-sound guidance, and a trained “gatekeeper” who reviews comments to ensure that the conversation remains safe. These sessions are currently limited to 12 users per group to ensure that each participant receives the attention and security they deserve.

In addition to this new group, 1in6 continues to offer two groups per week for men who experienced childhood sexual abuse. These groups meet Mondays 7pm-8:30pm Pacific Time, and Wednesdays 5pm-6:30pm Pacific Time.

1in6 also provides a 24/7 one-on-one helpline for men who have experienced sexual assault or abuse: https://1in6.org/chat-with-someone/.

The mission of 1in6 is to help men who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences live healthier, happier lives. 1in6 was founded in 2007, and its website was created in 2010, in response to a lack of resources addressing the impact of negative childhood sexual experiences on the lives of adult men. In 2016, 1in6 expanded its mission to include men who experienced sexual assault as adults.
