\nThe EmPOWER Center<\/a><\/h4>\n

The EmPOWER Center formally opened in late 2015 and is the Violence Prevention and Advocacy Center of The Claremont Colleges. The Center works collaboratively to support 7C-wide educational programs and provide holistic, confidential support to students impacted by sexual violence, dating\/domestic violence, or stalking. The Center collaborates closely with Project Sister Family Services, a community agency, to provide counseling services to students.<\/p>\n

Obtaining Plan B<\/h4>\n

The \u201cmorning-after pill,\u201d Levonorgestrel, is available as an emergency measure after unprotected intercourse. It must be administered within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse and is about 75% effective. Plan B is FDA approved for over-the-counter dispensing for women 17 years of age and older.<\/p>\n

Where to Get Plan B:\u00a0Plan B is available at CUC Student Health Services for $20, no appointment is required if you are 17 or older. Students under the age of 17 are required to see a health care provider. Please schedule an appointment accordingly.<\/p>\n

Vending Machines:\u00a0Plan B is available 24\/7 at the Wellness room, Walker Lounge, Pomona College. Pay with Claremont Cash.<\/p>\n

Student Advocates Groups<\/h4>\n

Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Assault\u00a0provide peer-to-peer support to survivors of sexual violence, dating\/domestic violence, and stalking. They provide emotional support, connection to resources, and can aid in the reporting process as well. Advocates also seek to eliminate these forms of violence\u00a0from\u00a0our campuses through educational outreach programs.Advocates are available only when school is in session.<\/p>\n

There are many sources of support and information at the colleges, however, many individuals are \u201cresponsible employees.\u201d Responsible employees are legally obligated to disclose what they learn about an incident of sexual assault, dating violence, stalking or sexual harassment to the Title IX Coordinator.\u00a0On all the campuses, responsible employees include all dean of student staff, faculty, coaches, resident advisors, and senior administrative staff. If you are not sure if you want to pursue action, you may want to speak with a confidential support resource first.\u00a0If you choose to speak with one of resources below, you have the option of limiting the details you share while you gather more information to help inform your decision. Making a report to a responsible employee does not mean that a grievance process will automatically move forward. Unless there is an ongoing threat to the reporting student or the Claremont Colleges community, a process will not move forward without the consent of the reporting student.<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n

In general, the disclosure of private information contained in medical records is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). In the context of sexual violence, however, medical providers in California, including medical providers at Student Health Services, are required to notify law enforcement if a patient tells medical personnel they have experienced sexual violence. The patient has the right to request that a survivor advocate be present with them when they speak with the police and to request that criminal charges not be pursued. Neither on- nor off-campus medical providers will notify the college of the report.<\/h6>\n<\/div>\n
