October 16-19, 2025: Futures of Comparative Racialization Conference
October 16 & 17 at The Athenaeum, Claremont McKenna College
October 18 at Roberts North 15, Claremont McKenna College (updated venue change)
October 19 at Kravis 321, Claremont McKenna College
Our conference examines the formation and significance of comparative racialization in cultural studies, particularly through various forms of narrativization and storytelling that theorize the conflicts and connections of interracial relations. Comparative racialization builds from the mutually constitutive concept of race in which groups are racialized in relation to one another, managing and prioritizing racial claims on the state. The invited talks by 14 junior and senior scholars across the US consider the concepts, tools, methods, and frameworks used to compare and contrast the experiences of different racial groups, while simultaneously offering analyses of a wide array of cultural sites and historical periods throughout the Americas.
