Charles W. Kamm (he\/him)<\/strong>\u00a0is the director of the choral area of the Joint Music Program of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges, where he directs and co-directs the Claremont Chamber Choir, Claremont Treble Singers, and Claremont Chamber Choir. He is Professor of Music at Scripps College, teaching music history, music appreciation, and choral conducting, as well as Scripps College Humanities Core classes, and he is a member of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts Department at Harvey Mudd College. Dr. Kamm\u2019s research focuses are on choral repertoire and practices, Nordic music and music of the United States. His conducting repertoire includes a cappella, piano-accompanied, and choral-orchestral works from the European Middle Ages to the 21st century, music of a variety of musical traditions of the United States, and premieres by composers from Asia, Europe, and North America.<\/p>\n

Professor Kamm taught previously at Vassar College and at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He has led both amateur and professional ensembles in the United States, Austria, Finland, and China, and prepared choirs for Finnish National Radio and for the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria. A tenor (and former countertenor), he has performed oratorio and recitals throughout the United States, Europe, and in China. In 2004-2005, he held a Fulbright Fellowship in Helsinki, studying at the Sibelius Academy while performing and researching Finnish choral music. He has also held a post-graduate conducting fellowship conducting a choir at Harvard University, been a fellow of The Conductor’s Institute, and taught as a visitor at Xiamen University in Xiamen, P.R. China. Professor Kamm received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Earlham College, the Master of Music from Michigan State University, the Doctor of Musical Arts from Yale University, and has studied in Vienna, Austria.<\/p>\n
