Muslim Life at The Claremont Colleges

Muslim Life at The Claremont Colleges supports the religious, spiritual, intellectual, and communal life of Muslims across the seven Claremont Colleges, with a particular focus on serving students. Bringing together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff, Muslim Life seeks to cultivate a vibrant and welcoming Muslim community across the consortium.

Muslim student life has a long history at The Claremont Colleges. For several decades, the Muslim Student Association (MSA) has provided a foundation for Muslim community building, religious practice, and student engagement across the consortium. In 2015, The Claremont Colleges expanded their institutional support for Muslim life with the appointment of a full-time Muslim Chaplain, joining the other chaplains in what is now Religious and Spiritual Life (formerly The Chaplains Office). Today, Muslim Life builds upon this history through a partnership between the Muslim chaplaincy, student leadership, and the broader resources of The Claremont Colleges.

With the support of Religious and Spiritual Life and under the leadership of the Chaplain and Director of Muslim Life, Muslim Life provides opportunities for worship, spiritual growth, Islamic learning, community building, and interfaith engagement. Throughout the academic year, the community gathers for weekly Jumma prayers, religious and educational programs, community meals, retreats, lectures and discussions, and the observance of the month of Ramadan, Eid, and other significant occasions in the Islamic calendar.

Muslim Life also provides religious and spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and support, particularly for students as they navigate university life. Faculty and staff are likewise welcomed into the religious and communal life of the community and may turn to Muslim Life for spiritual support, religious resources, and opportunities for connection and engagement. In partnership with the MSA and other campus partners, Muslim Life seeks to create an environment in which Muslims can deepen their faith, develop meaningful relationships, explore questions of religion and identity, and contribute to the wider life of The Claremont Colleges.

The Muslim community at Claremont reflects the diversity of global Muslim community, bringing together people from different cultures, backgrounds, traditions, and levels of religious practice. Muslim Life seeks to foster an environment in which this diversity enriches a shared experience of faith, community, learning, and belonging.
