{"id":19,"date":"2021-02-25T20:39:37","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T20:39:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cuccolleges.wpengine.com\/religious-studies\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2021-02-25T20:39:37","modified_gmt":"2021-02-25T20:39:37","slug":"courses-and-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/colleges.claremont.edu\/religious-studies\/courses-and-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"REQUIREMENTS &#038; CONCENTRATIONS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Religious Studies Major Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Students can create an Individualized Major and\/or Concentration by 1) selecting an advisor from the 5Cs Religious Studies faculty to design it; 2) listing at least 4 courses in their concentration with a short rationale for their choices; and 3) receiving approval by the chair of their RS department\/program.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a list of<em> sample<\/em> Religious Studies concentrations students can create via an Individualized Major and\/or Concentration.<\/p>\n<p>The Religious Studies major consists in ten courses (or 9 at CMC), as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Four courses in a specialized field (see sample concentrations in the menu on the right) at intermediate and advanced levels. The specialized field is to be determined in consultation with the major adviser<\/li>\n<li>Three courses outside the specialized field<\/li>\n<li>RLST 180 &#8211; <em>Interpreting Religious Worlds<\/em> (RLST 180 is best taken prior to senior year)<\/li>\n<li>RLST 190 &#8211; <em>Senior Seminar in Religious Studies<\/em><\/li>\n<li>RLST 191 &#8211; <em>Senior Thesis in Religious Studies\u00a0<\/em>(not required for CMC Religious Studies major)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Religious Studies Minor Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>The Religious Studies minor consists in six courses, as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three courses in a specialized field (see sample concentrations in the menu on the right) at intermediate and advanced levels. The specialized field is to be determined in consultation with the minor adviser<\/li>\n<li>Two elective courses outside the specialized field<\/li>\n<li>RLST 180 &#8211; <em>Interpreting Religious Worlds<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Religious Studies Dual Major Requirements (only CMC)<\/h2>\n<p>The Religious Studies dual major at Claremont McKenna College consists in seven courses, as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Four courses in a concentration<\/li>\n<li>Two courses outside the concentration<\/li>\n<li>Either RLST 180 &#8211; <em>Interpreting Religious Worlds<\/em> or RLST 190 &#8211; <em>Senior Seminar in Religious Studies<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Sample Concentrations in Religious Studies<\/h2>\n<p>The following is only a suggestive, not an exhaustive, list of possible major and minor concentrations for individualized study in Religious Studies. Students are warmly encouraged to determine a course of study that best suits their interests and goals in consultation with their advisor.
