SUMMARY:Designing Your Life
DESCRIPTION:Feeling frustrated\, overwhelmed\, and/or angry when you think about your future? Cringe whenever someone asks you\, “What are you going to be when you grow up?” or “What are you going to do with THAT degree?” Don’t know how to do what you love? Well\, we can’t solve all your problems\, but we can give you the tools to approach those difficult questions in a way that is fun and empowering. \nIn this workshop\, we will apply some of the basic principles of design thinking\, such as brainstorming and prototyping\, to the “wicked problem” of figuring out what you’re going to do with your life. We hope to bust some myths about what this process is like\, introduce tools and frameworks that will help you understand yourself better\, develop a community of common ground and support\, and send you out the door knowing what to do next. Please join us! \n The workshop will include dinner in the middle. Group size is limited to 15 for this iteration of the workshop (there will be more opportunities in the spring\, though!). To RSVP\, please fill out our short form: http://goo.gl/forms/X5yWSBD9xU Priority will be given to seniors/juniors and those who sign up earlier. \nPlease send us any comments and questions. 🙂

SUMMARY:Tuesday Nights @ the Hive: The Art of Breathing (TBA)
DESCRIPTION:Finals and project work feeling overwhelming? Exhausted\, stressed out\, unable to focus? Join us for a low-key\, de-stressing moment of self care during our final mini-workshop of the semester. \nMost people take shallow ineffective breaths throughout the day and do not realize that the body needs effective airflow to properly function on physical\, emotional\, and mental levels. Kim Gadlin\, Lecturer in Theater and Dance at Pomona\, will lead this session on The Art of Breathing (TAB) and explore simple techniques to enhance breathing and bring awareness to how important it is to consciously breathe. \nBring a pillow and blanket!

SUMMARY:Visiting Artist and Designer: Sam Starr
DESCRIPTION:In 2010\, Sam Starr designed and built Circulus\, a cycling track inside what is now the Hive. It impacted the space: the Seeley G. Mudd Science Library shifted from a space for quiet studying to an environment of sounds\, movement\, and repetition (see video below). \nhttps://vimeo.com/12844053 \nTHIS SATURDAY\, from 4 – 5PM Sam Starr will be visiting the Hive for an informal discussion about designing and building Circulus. We will be projecting the video above as well as talking about how this space was altered. \nACCESSIBILITY\nThe Hive is accessible through the entrance facing 7th Street (north entrance)\, the entrance facing College Ave (west entrance)\, and the entrance adjacent to Millikan Laboratory and the Cowart ITS building (east entrance). The west entrance can open automatically. For accommodations\, please contact the Hive via Facebook message\, email (hive@claremont.edu)\, or phone call (909-607-9248).
