SUMMARY:Pop-up Class: Ovidian Figures
DESCRIPTION:Join professors Jessica McCoy and Colleen Rosenfeld for their pop-up class! Ovid’s Metamorphoses begins with the poet’s intention: “To tell of bodies changed/ To different forms.” \nHow does one body\, one constellation of matter\, assume another shape? We will answer question this by analyzing and creating\, describing and drawing. \nRSVP is required! Please RSVP at the bottom of this page. If you can\, RSVP by Monday\, August 17th. \nA note from Colleen & Jessica: \nThank you for signing up for our “Ovidian Figures” Pop-up class.  We look forward to seeing you on Thursday\, 1:00-3:00\, to think about Ovid’s tale of Diana and Actaeon across visual and verbal modalities of thinking. \nPlease find a brief selection of readings here.  If you have a chance\, please read them before Thursday.  If not\, that’s fine.  We will read aloud anything we will discuss as a group.  The reader contains: \n\nOvid’s “Diana & Actaeon” from The Metamorphoses.\nPablo Picasso’s unpublished sketch of Actaeon’s transformation into a Stag.\n“About Face\,” by Patricia Agbabi\, in response to Titian’s Diana and Actaeon (c.1556).\n\nHere you can find a digital reproduction of Titian’s painting. \nFollowing our discussion\, we will be doing a drawing exercise that requires a drawing tool and a piece of paper (a pencil and printer paper is perfectly fine\, but if you have a sketch pad and another medium\, you may have a somewhat better experience). If you could make sure you have access to these analog materials before our class begins\, you would be very well prepared. \nBest Wishes\, \nColleen & Jessica
