SUMMARY:Podcasting Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Everyone and their mother has a podcast these days. Maybe you’ve even thought of making your own. Come try for yourself in a low-stakes\, collaborative environment! \nJoin us for a series of three workshops exploring the podcast creation process and the technical and interpersonal skills it requires. Each workshop will introduce technical skills (using a mic\, storyboarding\, audio software) and their respective real-world corollary (empathetic listening\, narrative storytelling\, clear communication). These workshops will give you the tools necessary to understand\, create\, and share the stories around you. \nAll workshops build towards one final product — a collaborative podcast created by all participants. But you should feel free to come to as many as you like. \n~~~ \nWorkshop #1: The Interview – Empathetic Listening and Recording Confidence\nIn the first workshop\, we will provide technical recording knowledge\, while exploring the power of listening and being listened to. We will learn how to use microphones and practice recording interviews! \nWorkshop #2: Storyboarding – Creating Compelling Narratives\nIn the second of three workshops\, we will collaboratively create a podcast “prototype” and delve into different forms of communicating and storytelling. We will listen to the interviews recorded in the first workshop and collaboratively engage with the process of creating a cohesive narrative from them. \nWorkshop #3: Audio Editing – Make it Sound Good\nIn the last of the three workshops\, we will learn the skills needed to craft crisp\, professional sound\, turning our initial prototype into a captivating podcast you’d be proud to have your name on. \n~~~ \nThese workshops are a collaboration between The Hive and Disco. https://www.discursive.co

SUMMARY:Design Thinking & Beyond with Intuit
DESCRIPTION:How would you design a skateboard? What if you couldn’t use wheels? Come learn about the process of designing solutions for problems both tangible and abstract. With sticky notes\, markers\, and group discussion\, let’s practice getting to the root of a problem and creating innovative solutions. \nAlumni Product Managers from Intuit will be hosting this design thinking workshop. We’ll wrap up with free time for Q&A – ask us anything! We’d love to share our experience applying these creative thinking methodologies to a career.

SUMMARY:Sound Lab 01: Mic'ing
DESCRIPTION:What does your hand sound like to a pencil… water bottle… steering wheel? How does a space express itself aurally? Does what you physically interact with have its own sensory experience? \nJoin us for a workshop where you will have the opportunity to make your own instruments using alternative mic’ing and sound recording techniques. In this participatory experience we will explore the boundaries of noise and music\, harnessing the tactility of sound. Attendees will leave with tools for collecting sounds for media projects such as podcasts\, music and sounds art. Specifically\, participants will obtain skills in the use of microphones that pick up sounds of contact\, underwater vibrations and electromagnetic fields. \nLimited spots available. Register now!\nhttps://goo.gl/forms/3ApoqsvGq40949E53 \nThis workshop is being led by Isaac Watts (Pitzer ‘18).

SUMMARY:Exploring Creativity within Collaboration (Mini-Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:DUE TO THE WEATHER\, THIS EVENT (https://www.facebook.com/events/395965124091536/) HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO THIS COMING FRIDAY. COME BY! \nStudents usually face the task of working on projects\, papers\, and general assignments in teams. But how students work with one another is just as important. \nSometimes\, we may not know what is too much or too little work. Others may not fill a comfortable stance among a balanced group project. Whether one has had past or current experience in a team\, from a sport to theatrical production to general group coursework\, this workshop will uncover some of the best traits of good teamwork-through creative expression. \nWe will start with a series of group activities\, observe ourselves and then reflect. Finally\, we will uncover the effective traits attained within the exercises to discover each user’s high potential to practice in their own everyday group activities. \nThis mini-workshop is led by Pitzer student\, Jordan Wong. \nACCESSIBILITY\nThe Hive is accessible through the entrance facing 7th Street (north entrance)\, the entrance facing College Ave (west entrance)\, and the entrance adjacent to Millikan Laboratory and the Cowart ITS building (east entrance). The west entrance can open automatically. For accommodations\, please contact the Hive via Facebook message\, email (hive@claremont.edu)\, or phone call (909-607-9248).
