Join Set Hernandez\, LA-based filmmaker\, writer\, and community organizer\, for an interactive workshop sharing the necessary skills for a successful career as an independent artist. Learn best practices for applying to fellowships and grants\, developing your portfolio\, and building relationships with your community! \nRSVP Required — Click to Register! \n Set Hernandez is a filmmaker\, writer\, and community organizer whose roots come from Bicol\, Philippines. Unapologetically queer and undocumented\, their filmmaking uplifts and complicates stories about their communities. An audio-centric film\, Set’s feature debut UNSEEN (POV/PBS\, 2024) received an Independent Spirit Award and was shortlisted for Best Feature at the IDA Documentary Awards. The film is historic as one of the first media projects ever to be led by an intersectional team of queer\, undocumented immigrant and disabled/blind artists. Set’s past film work includes COVER/AGE (2019) about healthcare access for elderly undocumented adults\, as well as impact producing for CALL HER GANDA (Tribeca\, 2018) about US militarism and anti-trans violence in the Philippines. Set also served as impact producer for IN PLAIN SIGHT (2020)\, addressing the culture of mass incarceration in the United States through skytyping planes that placed abolitionist messages across the country. Since 2010\, Set has organized around migrant justice issues\, from deportation defense to healthcare access. They co-founded the Undocumented Filmmakers Collective which promotes equity for undocumented immigrants in the film industry. In their past life\, Set was a linguistics researcher at UCLA\, focusing on bilingualism. Their work and writings have been featured on Rappler\, Documentary Magazine\, Democracy Now\, and beyond. Set’s work has been supported by the Sundance Institute\, Firelight Media\, NBCUniversal\, Ford Foundation\, Open Society Foundations\, United States Artists Fellowship\, among others. Above all\, Set is the fruit of their family’s love and their community’s generosity.

He co-edited the acclaimed book “The Black Experience in Design: Identity\, Expression\, and Reflection\,” recognized by Fast Company\, Print Magazine\, and others. Her work helps her see many magical changes from captive bears being extracted bile years in cages into the beautiful\, happy\, healthy bears living worry-free at Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre. \nPiyali Sircar\nSenior UX Researcher\, One Drop and Design Researcher\, The Greenish Project.  Piyali is a UX Researcher at One Drop\, a chronic health management platform\, where she conducts qualitative research to identify user needs and validate solutions to meet those needs.
