About Inside-Out

The Inside-Out education program at the 5 C’s is based on a pedagogical approach initially created by Prof. Lori Pompa at Temple University. The idea being that traditional students would take courses taught inside of a prison alongside incarcerated students. This style of teaching is focused on students learning from each other across differences.

In 2018 the first Inside-Out courses through The Claremont Colleges were taught at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco, Ca. Over time, the program has grown tremendously and is proud to be the first to offer Bachelors Degree opportunities to incarcerated people through Inside-Out curriculum.
