Community Members

Welcome!

If you’re a member of a community-based organization interested in partnering with the Justice Education Initiative – whether on a long-term basis or for a specific event – we would love to hear from you! Please contact us directly at justice_education@pitzer.edu. You are also welcome to apply for a grant of up to $200 for the purpose of hosting justice education-related events, whether or not you belong to a student organization.

In the initial stages of our program development, community participation is limited to collaborative efforts between JEI and other organizations. But follow us on social media and subscribe to our mailing list, and we’ll update you as we expand opportunities for participation. In the meantime, if you want to support our work, you can donate to the Justice Education Initiative here. We also encourage you to check out our organizational partners, many of whom have amazing opportunities for community engagement ranging from co-facilitating courses in prison and career development for folks on parole to mother and child residential treatment internships.

Thank you for your time and support, we look forward to building with you!

Funding Support

The Justice Education Initiative offers financial support for justice education-related events sponsored by community-based organizations, which may include but are not limited to: conferences, lectures, invited speakers, community engagement and art initiatives in addition to course development awards, faculty development opportunities, student-sponsored event awards, and more.

Funding categories:

  • Funding support for costs related to ongoing programs already being implemented in prison settings (i.e., workshops, faculty forums, tutoring, mentoring, literacy training, guest presentations, etc.) primarily at CRC, CIW, Camp AP, Prototypes, and Crossroads.
