ESSAY 1: PERSONAL STATEMENT

The selection committee members are interested in learning more about you. Please submit a personal statement essay that provides (1) a single, cohesive narrative about what life experiences have shaped you into the scholar you have become, and (2) the scholar you hope to be with the support of this program. Your essay should not list your accomplishments and experiences, but provide context as to how your background has led you to the research you are interested in, and how your background makes you a good fit for the MMUF program.

Your essay should not exceed 500 words (or 2 typed pages).

ESSAY 2: RESEARCH PROPOSAL

The research proposal statement should be written in collaboration with the faculty member you identify as your Faculty Research Mentor. Research proposals vary based on discipline, and your Faculty Research Mentor should provide expert advice about the shape of your discipline-specific proposal. You should include an abstract, a literature review, methodology, and description of significance. Your research proposal statement should be no more than seven (7) pages, not including works cited.
