The Vice President for Finance, Chief Operating Officer, and Treasurer for Pitzer College, Laura A. Troendle, presents a workshop on university budgets. The goal of the workshop is to provide explanations of all major aspects of a university’s budget. Financial literacy is one of the most valuable skillsets for incoming administrators as well as being the area of least experience for many who are coming into administration (i.e. chair, associate deans, deans). Hence, understanding how budgets work is pivotal. More importantly, being able to align strategic plans with available resources is becoming more apparent than ever. As such, leaders need to understand different budget systems, sources for information, challenges, and in turn be able to effectively communicate these to different stakeholders.
