Advanced Human-Centered Design
This course is designed for students who have previously taken our Introduction to Human-Centered Design class and are ready for more. In SP’26 Advanced HCD, Susie Wise will coach a small cohort of students to expand and deepen their design knowledge through real-world experience. In this practicum class, students spend 14 weeks working with an external partner on a design challenge. Students dive deep into primary and secondary research, uncovering insights about the stakeholders and ecosystem of the partner’s design challenge. They uncover opportunities for new solution ideas and prototype concepts in-market.
Susie Wise is a designer and teacher with experience in the education, tech, and social sectors. She coaches leaders in innovation practices, equity design, and storytelling for inclusion; is the founder and former director of the K12 Lab Network at the Stanford d.school.
Past projects have included partnering with Edulis Labs to bring new-age, eco-friendly hair blonding technology to market, collaborating with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to enhance the patient experience by addressing information overload, and working with the nonprofit design lab Amplifier to create the Well + Being card deck to facilitate emotional and social connection for students post-pandemic.
