Human-Centered Design Learn More!
The Rick and Susan Sontag Center for Collaborative Creativity (aka the Hive) is a design center serving the students, staff and faculty of the Claremont Colleges.
We believe everyone has tremendous untapped creative potential, and it’s our job as designers, researchers, and educators to help develop creativity and confidence.
We believe collaborative and interdisciplinary experiences are necessary to develop better problem finders (and solvers) to address the world’s problems, and we believe the best way to apply this approach is in the liberal arts.
We play, experiment, fail, and learn from that failure; we are building our creative confidence.

Two Scripps seniors collaborated a project that used design research to identify and address a pressing public health challenge: improving access to hepatitis C testing for unhoused individuals in Los Angeles County.
Serena Lin, a neuroscience major at Pomona College, has developed Uplift Notes, a conversation-starter toolkit aimed at bridging the generational gap and fostering meaningful connections. By applying design thinking principles, Serena was able to create a product that facilitates conversation and also adapts to the unique needs of individuals with memory concerns.
We want to take a moment to spotlight a Scripps alum and prior student staffer, Kenza Fernandez, and her recent accomplishment of being accepted to graduate school! Kenza is thrilled to be starting an MS in Design Engineering at Harvard University this August.
