Slow Looking – Mini-Workshop

Join the Hive and the Pomona College Museum of Art for a session of slow, sustained attention to original works of art from the Museum’s collection, which will be on temporary display at the Hive during the workshop. While the average museum attendee examines an artwork for only 5-6 seconds, studies have shown that an extended session of art observation and subsequent group conversation can increase each viewer’s empathy and overall awareness. This workshop will use slow looking techniques developed for training medical students, and we will also use the time to think about how to improve and advance the art observation process.
