Tutoring for a Class You’ve Never Taken: STEM Edition

April 26, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Have you ever tutored for a science or math class? Have you ever helped your friends with their STEM homework? What strategies did you use to ensure that students understood the material, and learned the skills to help them solve similar problems in the future? After three years tutoring math and computer science at Harvey Mudd, Jennifer Rogers (HMC ’16) believes that we should feel equally comfortable tutoring classes we’ve taken, and ones we haven’t. In this workshop, participants will engage in mock tutoring to understand what is and is not effective for student learning. Additionally, participants will discuss their own experiences with tutoring, and we will distill some wisdom from these experiences.
