Print Lab

The Print Lab is one of the four making spaces in the Hive! This space is a dedicated craft area equipped for the screen printing process. We welcome you to join us in this space to create a print, tote bag, t-shirt, and more of your own!

Students can sign up for Makingspace Workshops and/or Mentor Sessions to receive training, allowing them to use the Print Lab independently. Each session lasts 2 hours, allowing students to practice as much as they want. Students are encouraged to arrive at the start of the Mentor Session, but staying for the whole 2 hours is not required.

OPEN HOURS (RSVP REQUIRED):

Open Hours are for students/users who have completed the necessary training via our Workshops and/or Mentor Sessions and obtained a Print Lab ID (either a physical copy or a digital copy in your email). Students must complete a Print Lab ID (available for pickup at the Hive) by demonstrating the necessary steps to complete a screen printing project independently. If you want to do a larger group printing session, please email a Hive Experience Designer for more information.

During Open Hours, students can work on their projects without proctored supervision for specific blocks of time. Students can reserve the space in multiple 30-minute time blocks up to the time they anticipate using the space. These students are responsible for leaving the Print Lab in a better condition than they found it.

GENERAL RULES

1. You must have proof of training completion, either by showing the proctor your physical ID or a digital version.
2. You may only use up to 3 screens during an open-hour session
3. You may save 2 screens for up to 2 weeks — please label each screen with tape (name and screen burned/used date). After 2 weeks, your screen will be cleaned.
4. PLEASE clean up after yourself — Your Print Lab access will be revoked for a year if you fail to do so
5. Want to bring a guest? You may bring up to 1 friend (they do not need an ID to enter with you.) You are responsible for anything that happens during your session.
6. For printing large quantities (30+ of an item), you must provide your own water-based fabric ink (we recommend Speedball, which can be purchased on Amazon)
