Thought Leaders Join the Hive!

This spring, we welcome two distinguished design practitioners to our curricular team as Innovators in Residence: Susie Wise and Chelina Odbert.

Susie Wise is a designer, educator, and coach whose work spans education, technology, and the social sector. She is the founder and former director of the K12 Lab Network at the Stanford d.school and the author of Design for Belonging: How to Build Inclusion and Collaboration in Your Communities (2022). This spring marks her first time teaching at The Hive, where she will lead Advanced Human-Centered Design.

Returning to The Hive for a second consecutive spring, Chelina Odbert is the CEO and Founding Principal of Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI). She has built an award-winning practice that brings good design to places where it is not often found, and that connects localized design interventions to large-scale policy change. Her course, Community-Engaged Planning + Design for a More Just Public Realm, draws on KDI’s work to connect local design interventions with broader systems and policy change. Read a more in-depth story on Chelina here.

As successful design practitioners in the world, Susie and Chelina bring depth of perspective to students exploring their own professional paths. They sustain The Hive’s commitment to design education that is responsive to real-world challenges and oriented toward lasting impact.
