Summer ’26 Hive Internship Grants

This summer, the Hive will support five 5C students who were awarded innovation and design internships with companies and organizations out in the world, who need additional funding for housing, travel, food, and other miscellaneous expenses. In return, they will document and reflect on their experience, sharing what they gain from their roles in a blog.

Learn more from them about their internship experiences with their partner companies, their personal and professional growth, and the real-world impact of their work in their individual blog posts to come.

Lena Abed (Pomona ‘26)

Lena will be interning at Trubel&Co, a tech-justice nonprofit that mobilizes youth and communities to leverage local data to tackle challenges such as geospatial justice, expanding equitable STEM access for high school students, and climate + social justice issues.

Luna Romero (Pitzer ‘26)

Luna will be interning at Kounkuey Design Initiatives, continuing her research and design work on community perspectives on an affordable housing project in MacArthur Park, primarily through extensive community engagement, including flyering, canvassing, and workshops.

Celine Bernhardt-Lanier (CMC ‘26)

Celine will be interning at Transcend, a nonprofit that partners with and supports K-12 schools to redesign learning experiences. She will be supporting their research on innovative school models, assisting at their District Leadership Institute in North Carolina, and contributing to their Constructive Dialogue work to help students navigate and communicate across differences.

Jamie Paik (Pomona ‘28)

Jamie will be doing a self-designed internship with Director Stephanie Kwee-Ng, working on the design of independent senior living structures in Singapore. She will immerse herself in the empathy stage of the Human-Centered design process by visiting senior homes and conducting in-depth empathy interviews with residents.

Vaidehi Srinivasan (Pomona ‘27)

Vaidehi will be interning as a data scientist at Terradot, a global initiative to stabilize Earth’s climate through a carbon removal process called Enhanced Rock Weathering. Using design principles, machine learning, and statistical models, Vaidehi will tackle the challenge of determining how much carbon a given ERW deployment actually sequesters.

Congratulations and best of luck to our students who will be working hard this summer at such diverse institutions geared toward positive social impact. Learning how our students apply skills and ideas fostered at the Hive in the real world is an enriching experience that makes us proud of the work we do.
